Super Data Science
Podcast Review

The field of data science is changing fast. Because of this, it’s important to stay updated on current trends and techniques. The Super Data Science Podcast, hosted by Dr. Jon Krohn, aims to address topics related to machine learning, A.I., and data careers.

But does it actually accomplish this or is it just hype?

In this review, we take a closer look at the podcast’s approach to discussing data science and evaluate its effectiveness in delivering relevant content to its audience.

Super Data Science Podcast Review: A Mixed Bag

As an avid follower of data science and machine learning podcasts, I had high hopes for the Super Data Science Podcast hosted by Dr. Jon Krohn. Unfortunately, my experience was a mixed bag.

Firstly, while the podcast claims to cut through the hype, many episodes feel like they do the opposite. For instance, the episode on Claude 3.5 Sonnet seemed more like a marketing pitch than an insightful discussion. The constant focus on new features and benchmarks without delving into the practical implications can leave listeners wanting more depth and less fluff.

Moreover, the show tends to recycle the same high-level discussions across multiple episodes. The interview with Dr. Rosanne Liu, for example, touched on numerous fascinating topics like intrinsic dimensions in deep learning and character-aware text encoding. However, it often felt scattered and lacked a cohesive narrative, making it difficult to extract actionable insights.

The podcast also tries to cover a broad range of topics, from regulatory frameworks to Bayesian methods. While this breadth might appeal to some, it often leads to shallow coverage of each topic. The episode on AI regulatory frameworks with Dr. Gina Guillaume-Joseph was informative but could have benefited from a more focused and detailed examination of fewer frameworks.

Lastly, a significant issue I encountered was the podcast’s approach to competition. I recently started a podcast with a name similar but distinct from the Super Data Science Podcast. Rather than reaching out for a conversation, they sent Jessica Youngs a lawyer from Octans Legal to harass me into changing the name. They threatened me with a $150,000 lawsuit. This heavy-handed tactic left a sour taste and was highly unprofessional.

Overall, while the Super Data Science Podcast has its moments of brilliance, it often falls short in delivering the in-depth, practical content it promises. If you’re looking for a podcast that goes beyond the surface and genuinely cuts through the hype, you might want to explore other options.
